“With the record, we aimed to be uncompromising and really plant our flag,” Matthew states. “As more time passes, heavy music continues to lose its teeth. This genre is supposed to be threatening; it should have an edge and make you feel something. We tried to create an album with urgency.”
The very first single, “Skies Cast Amber Black,” marches along to a relentless rhythm, accompanied by down-tuned riffs and crushing drums. On the other hand, there’s the song “Death Will Follow Me,” where punchy riffs blend with an intense growl and the hypnotic chorus “I want to move on.”
The American quintet Boundaries—Matthew McDougal (vocals), Cory Emond (guitar), Tim “Cheese” Sullivan (drums/vocals), Nathan Calcagno (bass/vocals), and Cody DelVecchio (guitar)—has infused metalcore and hardcore with powerful melodies and poignant authenticity since its formation in 2014. Revolver magazine praised their “fascinating blend of crushing sounds,” and New Noise Magazine awarded their second album 4.5 out of 5 stars, adding: “This is a band with arguably one of the brightest futures on the scene.” It’s no wonder, then, that they’ve shared the stage with acclaimed acts like A Day To Remember, Counterparts, Lorna Shore, and Currents.
