Peter Buck is the founding guitarist and co-songwriter of R.E.M. Duke Garwood, an acclaimed British singer-songwriter, boasts several solo albums alongside successful collaborative records with Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees). Multi-instrumentalist Alain Johannes, besides his own band Eleven, has worked with icons such as Queens Of The Stone Age, PJ Harvey, and Them Crooked Vultures. Grammy Award-winning drummer Barrett Martin rose to fame with Screaming Trees and Mad Season, but has also recorded for R.E.M. and Queens Of The Stone Age. The star-studded lineup is rounded out by percussionist Lisette Garcia.
The story of Drink The Sea began in 2022 with a spontaneous jam session between Alain and Barrett. Two years later, they were already recording in Reykjavík, São Paulo, and Santiago, Chile. Their two debut albums, Drink The Sea I and Drink The Sea II, were thus literally created around the world.
The band’s music reflects the members’ long-standing experience and a strong world music influence. Traditional instruments like guitars, bass, and drums are enriched by the sounds of the Arabic oud, Indian sitar, Indonesian gamelan, and exotic percussion such as the marimba, kalimba, or Brazilian surdo drum.
