Hot Mulligan is a Michigan-based emo band known for blending raw vulnerability with high-energy pop-punk hooks. Formed in 2014, the group—vocalist Tades Sanville, guitarists Chris Freeman and Ryan Malicsi, bassist Jonah Kramer, and drummer Brandon Blakeley—quickly gained a devoted following through house shows and relentless touring. Since 2018’s Pilot, they’ve racked up over 140 million Spotify streams, toured with The Wonder Years and Jimmy Eat World, and become a mainstay of the modern emo scene.
Their fourth LP, The Sound a Body Makes When It’s Still (Wax Bodega, 2025), is their most cohesive statement yet, balancing blistering choruses with introspective, emotionally charged lyrics. With standout tracks like “And a Big Load” and “Carbon Monoxide Hotel,” the album demonstrates Hot Mulligan’s knack for combining catharsis with catchy, dynamic songwriting.
From basement shows to major festivals like Bonnaroo and Slam Dunk, Hot Mulligan continues to stay true to their roots, pushing emo forward while keeping their distinctive voice intact.
