The single The Sword That Never Bends is a masterclass in cutting-edge modern metalcore. Featuring a menacing Mick Gordon-esque riff and frontman Eddie’s violin, it sends a clear message: with Axis Mundi, the band is setting their sights on the top of the heavy music world. Imminence are also bolder when it comes to sound. Tracks like If Not Now, When and Shed Your Skin evoke ’90s alt-rock, while Crestfallen flits between cinematic friction and a Spiritbox-like style. Didn’t Think About You (Lately) draws inspiration from Bon Iver, seamlessly transitioning from lo-fi to drum ’n’ bass.
“The lyrics are covering topics in terms of living with purpose, finding purpose, and it’s a moral dilemma, in many cases,” says guitarist Harald Barrett. “Choosing who you want to be in between life and death.” “We’ve always been big fans of cinema and our music is dramatic at the core. It opens up a different level of theatricality. It sounds and feels cinematic, and I think that is really what makes it work. It takes you into that other world, and you start seeing things, building universes, and it feels like film, in that sense.” Axis Mundi drops on October 2, 2026.
