P.O.D. didn’t rise to fame overnight; they had to work hard to earn their place in the spotlight of today’s heavy music scene. After countless shows in basements and a world tour in a van, they finally signed a contract with Atlantic Records, releasing the album The Fundamental Elements of Southtown in 1999. But that was just the beginning of the band’s hard work.

In 2001, they followed up with the groundbreaking album Satellite, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and went triple platinum. Hits such as “Alive,” “Youth of the Nation,” “Boom,” and “Satellite” all come from this album. Thanks to these songs, the band earned a total of three Grammy nominations—in 2002 for “Best Hard Rock Performance” with the song “Alive,” and in 2003 in the same category with “Youth of the Nation” and for “Best Metal Performance” with the song “Portrait.”

The San Diego quartet—Sonny Sandoval (vocals), Marcos Curiel (guitar), Traa Daniels (bass), and Wuv Bernardo (drums)—has sold over 10 million albums and played sold-out concerts across several continents. Yet they continue to create and push the boundaries. “We always want to be meaningful on the next record, tour, and season,” Sonny says. “Honor and integrity are more important than anything. As long as I’m breathing and making some music, I’m good with it.”

“P.O.D. is a family,” Traa exclaims. “It’s as much a part of me as my wife and children are. Being able to be a part of something that has touched crowds is an honor. We’re blessed to do this.”
